When J.J. Mangina began the laborious process of applying for colleges, he experienced something that most high school students will never have to go through. Amidst filling out all of the usual paperwork, he realized that something unusual was going on with his social security number, and it made him take a step back. Once he realized what was going on, his life changed dramatically.

Throughout his childhood, Mangina had what he would consider a normal life, living with his father Jonathan in Cleveland, Ohio. His single father gave him everything he needed, but one day, J.J. realized that all was not as it had seemed, and everything he knew was actually a total fabrication.

J.J. was born in Alabama and since he was five years old was raised by his father on his own. The father and son eventually relocated to Cleveland, and once J.J. reached high school, he quickly became one of the hardest working and successful students in his class. That meant that when college applications came around, he was absolutely ready to begin the process of getting into a great school.
