Perhaps this is related to the differing pain threshold that redheads have, but one study has shown that redheaded females require at least 19-20% more anesthesia in order to be sedated while compared to others. The mutation that is associated with the pain threshold is the cause of this. Redheads also need more topical anesthetics like Novocaine or Lidocaine than others to feel the same effect.
