Construction of the Berlin Wall
Most textbooks showcase the fall of the Berlin Wall, but this one focuses on it being constructed. It started in 1961 and kept West Berlin and East Germany separated until it came down on November 9th, 1989 in a pivotal world history event, leading to the reunification of Germany in October of the next year.
Creation of the Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a hugely important symbol in the US, but it was actually built by the French. Edouard Rene de Laboulaye conceived the neoclassical sculpture, and he worked with sculptor Frederic Bartholdi to present the US with this gift to help show appreciation after the Union won the Civil War. Fun fact, the sculpture’s metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel, who built the Eiffel tower.
