Since McQueen loved motorcycles, they became synonymous with his image. In November 1999, he was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, with his contributions including the financing of the film On Any Sunday, as well as bettering the public image of motorcycling overall.

McQueen had storyboards and notes for a film called Yucatan in planning while he passed away. A film based on these was planned by production company Wonderland Sound and Vision and was meant to be released in 2013. However, it was never released, and now Team Downey, Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s production company, has expressed interest in developing the film.
